Apple Urges iPhone Users to Update Immediately: A Critical Update You Can’t Afford to Ignore
Apple Urges iPhone Users on Older iOS Versions to Update Immediately
Apple has urged iPhone users whose devices are still running older versions of iOS — specifically iOS 13 and iOS 14 — to update immediately to at least iOS 15. The move aims to address critical security vulnerabilities that are currently being exploited in advanced cyberattacks.
In an official support document, the company explained that modern hacking tools such as “Coruna” and “DarkSword” are taking advantage of flaws in several iOS versions. These exploits allow attackers to gain control of devices through malicious web content or infected links. Apple emphasized that installing the latest system updates ensures data protection and prevents these vulnerabilities from being exploited.
Apple also noted that it has released multiple security updates in recent months to fix these issues. Devices running newer versions, from iOS 15 up to iOS 16, are now protected against these threats. Additionally, the company rolled out further updates on March 11 to directly address the problem.
The company added that devices still operating on outdated versions will soon receive automatic alerts prompting users to install a “critical security update,” in an effort to accelerate protection.
Additional Protection Measures
Beyond updating, Apple provides an extra layer of security through Safari’s “Safe Browsing” feature, which is enabled by default and blocks access to malicious links associated with these attacks.
For devices unable to update, Apple offers the “Lockdown Mode,” an advanced security feature designed to reduce attack surfaces. This mode limits certain functionalities, such as displaying images in messages or loading untrusted web content. It is specifically intended for users at higher risk of targeted cyberattacks, including journalists and public figures.
Recent reports indicate that these hacking tools have already been used in several countries, including Ukraine, China, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Malaysia, highlighting their global reach and ability to target any device running outdated software.
Apple concluded its warning by stressing that immediate updates remain the first line of defense against these escalating threats
